Do's & don'ts, prohibited items, fines, accessibility — all BMRCL guidelines

Do's

  • Purchase a valid token or load your Smart Card before entering the fare gate
  • Keep your token or Smart Card accessible for inspection at all times
  • Stand behind the yellow safety line on the platform until the train stops
  • Allow passengers to alight before boarding
  • Give priority seating to elderly, differently-abled, pregnant women, and women with infants
  • Use the lifts and escalators in good order; hold the handrail on escalators
  • Report unattended baggage or suspicious objects to station staff immediately
  • Keep valuables secured and be vigilant against pickpockets in crowded trains
  • Carry valid photo ID for Smart Card / pass-related queries
  • Exit promptly — you have 120 minutes from entry to exit before overstay charges apply
  • Use designated wheelchair bays and priority spaces if entitled to them
  • Follow instructions of BMRCL staff and CISF security personnel at all times

Don'ts

  • Do not smoke, vape, or use tobacco products anywhere on BMRCL premises
  • Do not consume food or beverages inside the train coaches
  • Do not carry or consume alcohol on trains or at stations
  • Do not spit on platforms, coaches, or any metro property
  • Do not litter — use the dustbins provided on platforms
  • Do not lean against or hold train doors open
  • Do not misuse the passenger emergency alarm (chain/button) without cause
  • Do not occupy priority seats if not entitled (elderly, differently-abled, pregnant)
  • Do not play loud music or videos without earphones
  • Do not run, push, or create disturbances on platforms or in coaches
  • Do not photograph or video record security equipment, CISF personnel, or restricted areas
  • Do not carry unauthorized commercial goods or excess baggage beyond permitted size (60×45×25 cm)
  • Do not bring dangerous goods, flammable materials, sharp weapons, or corrosive substances
  • Do not allow animals on trains (guide dogs for visually-impaired passengers are permitted)
  • Do not solicit or beg on metro premises
  • Do not trespass onto tracks, restricted zones, or unauthorized areas

Luggage permitted: max 60×45×25 cm per piece. Oversized luggage: ₹30/piece additional charge.

Accessibility & Inclusivity

  • Tactile guiding paths on all platforms for visually-impaired passengers
  • Lifts, escalators, and ramps at every station for wheelchair users
  • Dedicated wheelchair bays in every coach
  • Braille signage and audio announcements at stations
  • Priority queues at token vending machines for senior citizens and differently-abled
  • Station staff trained in disability etiquette — request assistance anytime
